Farewell, my Darling: Seasoned American journalist retires

Yesterday came the bittersweet news that renowned newspaper industry personality Ed Darling is retiring, after a prolific career spanning more than four decades. According to The Associated Press, Darling says he “will now pursue interests in community service”.

Thirty five years of the print media giant’s career has been dedicated to serving as publisher for community newspapers in the states of Alabama, Mississippi and Oklahoma.

In Mississippi; Darling served as editor and publisher of The Meridian Star, The Natchez Democrat and the Picayune Item, and The Cullman Times and The Greenville Advocate in Alabama. He was executive editor and general manager of The Duncan Banner, which is based in Oklahoma. He also worked in management roles for Boone Newspapers Incorporated, American Publishing Corporation. and Community Newspaper Holdings Incorporated.

Darling, who is deeply and genuinely grateful for his forty five years of success, was quoted as saying: “I am fortunate to have worked with a number of talented professionals in quality organisations, to have lived in several remarkable communities and to have had unique opportunities along the way. It has been a good career and a rewarding experience”

As for who will take his place as publisher of the Mississippi Business Journal, the search for a suitable applicant is currently taking place. There is no doubt that his are big shoes to fill.
